Because of the rising upland and wetlands due to the rising of the forest, the name of the place is called UluKandi. At that time, Ulukandi was included in the then the Bhagalpur Dewan zamindari. Dewan of Bitghar of Nabinagar upazila started the settlement in the area of Ulukandi and adjacent areas with verbal permission from Dewan Syed Ahmed Reza, zamindar of Bhagalpur. In addition to the habitat, a market is developed. Dewan Bhairab Chandra Roy named the market Kamalganj in the name of his mother, Publicly Bhairab Bazar. Later villages were named after Bhairabpur, Kamalpur, Jagannathpur, Shambhupur, Kalipur, Chandiber and Laksmipur in the name of his brothers and sisters.
